What an awesome time we had today at Reeve Drive Reserve. The sound of a tui singing greeted us as soon as we got off the bus. We also heard lots of piwakawaka. We saw lots of different coloured leaves and found some interesting seed pods. We ran, slid, climbed and jumped. We lay down and looked at the trees and birds above us. Some of the children really challenged themselves climbing up the steep bank, sliding down and jumping over the creek. Thank you Papatuanuki for sharing your taonga with us.
Our tamariki and teachers got dressed in their best clothes and the children had their hair done and nails painted to then enjoy a high tea for lunch. Busy day for all but a lot of fun. The children were so excited, which made it a very special celebration to remember.
Zappo the Magician came to perform his magic show. Everyone had a great time watching his magic tricks, laughing at his funny antics and joining in with the singing and dancing. Thanks for a wonderful show, Zappo!
Many activities and games were introduced to our tamariki during Matariki week. To name but few we have: making stars of all kinds (painting, stamps, using alternative resources, biscuits), learning a dance and song, kite-making (small individual ones as well as a big collective one), learning about the 9 stars and of course the making of a delicious veggie soup. Well done tamariki!
